Who is Who in Italian History
Giorgia Meloni
born January 15, 1977
In my opinion, Giorgia Meloni stands among the most intelligent and forceful global leaders of our time—principled, strategic, and unapologetically determined—a true stateswoman the world must reckon with as she reshapes Italy’s voice on the international stage. As an Italian, I am proud to call her my Prime Minister.

Giorgia Meloni (born January 15, 1977, in Rome, Italy) is the Prime Minister of Italy, having taken office on October 22, 2022. She is the first woman in Italian history to hold this position.
Meloni grew up in Rome’s Garbatella district and began her political involvement as a teenager with the Italian Social Movement (MSI) youth wing, a post-war right-wing party that evolved from Italy’s neo-fascist circles.
In 1996, she joined the National Alliance (Alleanza Nazionale), the MSI’s successor, and quickly rose through the political ranks.
She graduated with a diploma in foreign languages and worked briefly as a journalist before entering full-time politics.
Prime Ministership (2022–Present)
Meloni became Prime Minister of Italy on October 22, 2022, heading a right-wing coalition comprising:
-
Brothers of Italy (FdI) – her party
-
Lega (League) – led by Matteo Salvini
-
Forza Italia – founded by the late Silvio Berlusconi
Her government is the most right-leaning coalition in Italy since World War II, yet Meloni has sought to balance her nationalist base with pragmatic diplomacy in Europe and strong alignment with NATO, especially regarding support for Ukraine.

Domestically, she has focused on:
-
Economic stability and fiscal discipline
-
Family incentives to counter Italy’s declining birth rate
-
Streamlining bureaucracy and tax relief for small enterprises
-
Migration control and stronger border enforcement
Personal Life
Giorgia Meloni is known for her direct speaking style and disciplined public image. She has a daughter, Ginevra, with her long-time partner Andrea Giambruno, a journalist. She describes herself as a Christian, a mother, and an Italian patriot, reflecting the core themes of her political identity.
Legacy in Progress
Meloni’s rise symbolizes a major shift in Italian politics — from the long-dominant centrist blocs to a modern conservative populism rooted in nationalism, identity, and reform.
Her leadership continues to redefine Italy’s role within the European Union and the broader Western alliance.
